Friends Meeting House

Friends Meeting House

Although built in 1852, the Bakewell Friends Meeting House was renovated in 2006 leaving it very much a modern building with a high degree of built-in safety. It is used by local Quakers and a community of hirers. Health and Safety is overseen by a Stewardship Committee of Friends and is managed by the Meeting House manager. Read our Health & Safety Policy here.

Risk Assessment

Central to the implementation of Health and Safety in the Meeting House is its H&S Risk Assessment which leaders of both Quaker and community groups should read. Highlights in green are particularly applicable to Meeting House users.
Should activities of groups fall outside the scope of this Risk Assessment then groups should provide their own risk assessments to cover these activities.

Pat Testing

The Risk Assessment expects all portable electric equipment used in the Meeting House to be PAT tested. We can arrange PAT testing for users’ electrical equipment together with our own equipment for no charge.

Fire Action and Evacuation

The Risk Assessment identifies Quaker and community group leaders (or nominees) as responsible for evacuation of the Meeting House in case of fire or other emergency. Short informal individual briefings for leaders will be supported by a Fire Action & Evacuation card.

Insurance

Community users are reminded that the Meeting House insurance covers your use of the Meeting House as a venue but not the activities you undertake. Community groups are responsible for arranging insurance to cover their activities in the Meeting House.
The Meeting House uses Congregational Insurance. Their certificate is in the lobby, and you can read their Policy Booklet here.
